Shuruq Organizers


Nasrat Nezia is a senior in the College of Arts and Science studying Biology on the pre-med track. Through medicine and public health research she aspires to level the playing field to access to health care for underrepresented and disadvantaged individuals in developing nations. This year she is the president of Shuruq and co-president of the Bengali Student Association. Outside of NYU she works with the Global Peace Foundation and Masjid Quba, both of which aims to empower the youth and help them realize the crucial role they play in shaping society. During her free time she likes baking, playing volleyball, and writing.






Athena Muhammad is a junior in CAS as a philosophy major. Her favorite class is Chinese and she likes to crochet. She has two younger brothers and one older sister. A fun fact about her is that she loves piercings.







Omer Malik is the Secretary of Shuruq. He is currently a junior at NYU and he is majoring in Computer Science and Journalism.







Raphia Ngoutane is a sophomore majoring in Global Public Health/Nutrition & Dietetics. She is excited to be the volunteer coordinator for this year’s Shuruq! She is passionate about health equity, gender equality and all that encompasses social justice. Outside of Shuruq, Raphia also serves as a Co-Programming Chair for Steinhardt’s Undergraduate Student Governemnt! On her free time, she loves to hang out with her family and friends, watch Korean drama, cook and explore new places!
