ssw course

How do we scaffold faith under internal and external challenges that have little patience for answers: lack of self-esteem, pressure from family, greed, narcissism and anti-Muslim bigotry? They compel us to look to Islam for broad answers to an infinite number of particular problems.

The foundations of thought and practice (al-Qawa’id) are axioms derived from religious sources that provide a general overview of Islam, its purpose and its goals. By learning them, Muslims furnished their minds with broad principles that inspire them to live faithfully and to contribute to their communities, repel doubts, evaluate teachings and answer haters.

In this course, Resident Scholar of the ICNYU, Suhaib Webb will cover the following

Introduction to Qawaid
Two Types of Qawa’id and their different purposes
Islam's goal for society: preventing harm and bringing benefit
Harm and benefits
Application of this principles
Introduction to the five agreed-upon principles of faith and life
The first principle: Affairs are rooted in their purposes
The second principles: Hardship causes ease
Harm is removed
Custom silences disputes/ and shades rulings
Certainty is not removed by doubt

Those five principles are so important, that Imam al-Suyuti said that “Fiqh is based on them.” Sing up for the course to receive its accompanying text.
