SHEIKH SUHAIB WEBB

The Qur'an is a treasure of guidance. But sometimes that treasure is hard to find. Join Suhaib Webb every Tuesday night for a journey through the Qur'an. A trip that will help you expand your relationship with the Qur'an and Faith. This course is open to everyone. So, if you're asking, "Is this for me?" or "Can I bring my friend?" It's for you!

Sheikhing it Up with Sheikh Faiyaz

SHEIKH FAIYAZ JAFFER

Weekly halaqas with reflections from the Qur'an, Prophetic traditions, and teachings of the Ahlul Bayt (a). The classes are aimed to allow for thought provoking discussions on matters related to ethics and spirituality. The aspiration is to take practical lessons from the discourses and work to cultivate our journey in seeking closeness to God by treading in the footsteps of the Prophet and his family.

A Journey Through the Verses of the Quran

DR. ALI MERMER 

Alongside teaching the methodology of making tafseer (exegesis) of the Qur’an, this discussion will provide members with practice by learning self-skills to demonstrate the Tafseer of certain verses (ayaat) of the Qur’an, especially those which are more related to the fundamentals of tenets of Islamic tradition. This discussion encourages attendants to engage themselves with the Qur’an, to make them feel that the Qur’an is within their reach and that they can communicate with the Qur’an.

Straight Talk with Sisters (STWS)

MONA HAYDAR 

Straight Talk with Sisters (STWS) is a gathering where we commune, discuss, socialize and uplift one another. Each gathering will begin with a brief introduction to a topic, followed by time for questions and group discussion. We will begin with the tafsīr/exploration of Surat-An-Noor- Chapter 24: The Light from the Qur’an and how it relates to our daily lives. "No people sit in a gathering remembering Allah, But the angels surround them, mercy covers them, tranquility descends upon them and Allah remembers them before those who are with Him."

Women's Self Defense Workshop

SISTER HAFI ODUSANYA 

In the ICNYU Women's Self Defense Workshop, you will discover new energy within you, connect to your inner self, and have the strength to be able to physically defend yourself in case of an attack. You will learn from the basics such as how to make a fist, kick and various punches, to more advanced of how to strike back, how to get out from rape situation, and how to make every day ordinary items such as books, magazines, or even your own shoulder bag can be used as a weapon to protect yourself. Learn how not to become a victim and to be aware of your surroundings, among other things. To get the full benefit of the classes, it’s encouraged that you attend the sessions consecutively as each session builds upon the other. We highly recommended that you commit to a minimum of four classes. The first session is an hour and the following sessions are for one hour. The class is designed to be 4 sessions, and then you graduate. Two classes will take place, with the first group from 7 - 8 pm, and the second class from 8:30 - 9:30 pm. Note, the self defense workshops have limited space. The capacity is 16 people, and anyone who signs up after will be placed on a waitlist. All level students are welcome. Recommended Dress code: work out /gym clothing, bare foot, thin sole shoes welcome (vibram, yoga socks).
